Engagement Story Part I

Well, I know lots of people have been asking, so here's the story (yes, with ALL the details) for those who want to know:

Okay, so many of you all know that I've been pretty sick for about a week and a half. Yeah, I'm still sick (but hoping to go to the doctor this week). Needless to say, I've been out of it! Nevertheless, I started a new job on Monday, Jan. 21, so I've been sick and getting acclimated to my new job...and so I've been quite preocupied this past week. Never would have suspected that anything else might have been brewing in the works.

Last Sunday, January 20, Tom and I celebrated (over the phone) our 5-monthiversary...

Apparently, one night early this past week when I was feeling particularly sick, Tom tucked me in and left my house. Little did I know that before he left my house, he talked with my dad downstairs and asked for my dad's blessing because he wanted to propose to me. "I think he got a little teary-eyed," Tom told me later. My father happily replied "Yes, of course, Tom!" Dad told mom either that night or the next day...so they knew about it for a few days before the actual proposal! Hmm...they were awfully good at hiding it...or maybe I was just completely out of it because of being sick.

In the middle of the week, Tom told me he wanted to spend the entire day with my on Saturday and I told him that sounded wonderful (I had hoped I would feel better by Saturday). As the weekend drew nearer, I began to think of the things we could do on Saturday and wondered if Tom had any ideas (go figure), but I was too sick and tired to concentrate on it for long.

After the completion of my first week at my new job, Tom came over after work and he started feeling sick too. (I guess we share everything.) We had dinner with my parents on Friday evening at Western Sizzlin' (now called the "Great 611 Steak Company") and none of them acted funny, so I still had no clue. Tom left shortly after dinner so that we could both get to sleep to get up and see each other in the morning.

Still sick, I didn't sleep well again that night, so I was rather groggy when he called and told me in a very peppy voice that it was 9:10 and he was leaving his house to come over. So I got up and got ready and re-did all the home remedies I could think of so that I could feel a little bit better for the day ahead even though I had no clue that what I would really need for the day ahead was a huge energy pill! He looked all handsome and stuff when he got to my house and I just looked dressed-down like I was gonna knock around the house.

He asked me what I thought of going road-exploring since we had been wanting to do that together for a long time. I thought that sounded like a great idea and I didn't think I would need to change out of my VERY casual clothes since it didn't sound like we'd be going out anywhere particularly special. My mom was volunteering at the Wildlife Rescue when we left the house, and my dad had recently woken up and waved us off as he put seed in the bird feeders. Once in the car, Tom said excitedly, "Let's go to the Star first! It's been awhile since we've been there!" I thought to myself well that's not really exploring a road we've never been on, but okay. So I said "sounds good!"

Because we thought the Parkway was closed, I took Tom a different route and so he did actually get to see some roads he'd never driven before. Once we got up there, we found the place empty. Absolutely no other cars! I was rather excited because I knew that meant we wouldn't have to deal with other people's cigarette smoke. Tom was enthusiastic...well, for other reasons that I didn't know about yet. Both of us feeling sick, we go out to the balcony and look over the city and talk for a few minutes.

Then Tom says he wants to take a picture. I still have no clue because he and I ALWAYS take pictures everywhere we go...so this was not out of the norm. He puts his camera on his little tripod on the brick wall that stands directly below the Mill Mountain Star and I move as he directs me on where to stand to take the picture. Finally, he pushes the button and comes over to stand next to me for what I think is going to be a picture. I'm still smiling and facing the camera. But then he turns me to face him. (I'm thinking: umm, okay, I guess we're going to take a picture of us facing each other) Then he starts talking.

He says "Honey, I love you very much..."
I giggle and say "I love you too, honey". (I might have had an inkling of an idea at this point)
Then he says something like "and I want to spend my life with you and I have a question to ask you..." then he goes down on his knees and then it hit me (obviously)
I kinda whispered in a shaky voice "wha-at?"
and he says, "Will you marry me?"
I did a little squeal-scream and stepped forward to hug him (he was still on his knees) and then I stepped back and asked him (several times, I think) "are you serious?!?"
"yes! yes, I'm serious! look..." he says as he takes out the ring to show me...
I squeal-scream again, covering my mouth and stepping a few feet backward...still in disbelief and shock...
then he says something to ask again for my answer (silly me) and I say "Yes! yes, of course!" and I pulled him up so I could hug him properly...

I find out in the midst of all this that he was recording it, not taking a picture of us! Soon after he turns the camera off and we're still hugging, another couple arrives at the star and kinda ignore us, but we're bubbling with joy and Tom shouts at them "I just asked her to marry me!!!!" to which they kinda laughed and said "congratulations"

Well the rest of the day was spent galavanting around town to tell my sisters and their families and making phone calls to other friends and family on my side...but Tom decided not to tell anyone in his family until this morning in church. We had dinner at the Olive Garden with my parents and his last night and celebrated. But his parents were the only people on his side that knew...and they had kept the secret for 2 weeks!! This morning, we went to his church, Chatmoss Baptist Church in Martinsville, VA, and announced to his church and other family members that we are engaged. It was a very happy (and sickly) occasion for Thomas and me...we're hoping to get better soon so that we can start planning.

My next blog will contain the videos taken and some pictures so that you can see the reaction for yourself. We need to get the ring resized this week, if possible, but it's beautiful!

Thank you all for your continued support and prayers! Much love to all!

America: Police State

Friends,

My heart is heavy and filled with anxiety as I send you this e-mail.

I do not know how many of you are following up with my latest e-mails and doing the research that every American ought to be doing. I certainly know that I would still be completely in the dark about all this if my boyfriend hadn't encouraged me to do my own research, look up articles and videos of first hand accounts and government decisions, etc.

I e-mail you all because I care about you, your families, and our country. All I can do is send articles and videos to you in hopes that you will pay close attention. I may get black-bagged for this later if Congress succeeds in passing the bill that censors the internet and weeds out all the thousands of people like me who are questioning everything and warning others about what's going on in our country. They'd probably label me as a "terrorist" according to the latest bill that Congress is trying to pass...it's an attack on our Freedom of Speech and an attempt to soften the American people so that the U.S. government can control everything (aka, tyranny)...here is the video and some second-hand article that follows: Freedom of Speech and H.R. 1955

(By the way, Alex Jones is a radio show host in Texas who has been warning America of these things for years and who has become more passionate in the last year or two as everything is quickly coming to a head...these bills are being passed and the big wigs and U.S. government are getting what they want. Research Alex Jones on your own, if you're interested in his eye-opening shows)

We have become pawns, my friends. Don't just scoff at me or at all this because the truth is nothing to scoff at. The things I'm telling you are not "conspiracies"...they are things that ARE HAPPENING or already have happened!! Good grief, it makes me sick to think that someone would say "I'm too busy to listen to a conspiracy theorist". *sigh*

As an interviewee in Aaron Russo's film America: Freedom to Fascism pointed out, think of it as a big Crap game. The big wigs at the very top who are playing the Crap game (Democrats and Republicans alike, private corporations, top government officials) love their game; they make all the profits from the war while Americans at home are suffering because many of us can't afford the simplest things or even get health care. Their Crap game is intense and occasionally someone gets hurt or killed, but otherwise, they're all in it together and if anyone threatens their Crap game, then Democrats, Republicans, private corporations, and all unite together to smother the threat by any means possible.

Please check out this video of an American soldier who has served in Iraq and his opinion on the war in Iraq and a few presidential candidates: Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee, and John McCain: One Soldier's Perspective

The United States government has taken the exact same steps that Germany took right before it became the Nazi Germany tyranny that controlled its citizens so closely. If you're willing to read, then read Naomi Wolf's relatively short book End of America on this topic. What makes us think that it can't happen to us? Because of people who have "blind faith" in our government perhaps? You cannot have "blind faith" in ANYTHING except God, my friends. The private corporations, who are also in that Crap game with the other big wigs, are the ones who own the mainstream media companies, so they do everything they can to tell us exactly what they want us to hear so that we will be "agreeable" to the government's actions.

For example, they used 9-11 to pass the so-called "Patriot Act", which had been written long before 9-11 and they had failed to pass through Congress but that they renamed and dubbed the "Patriot Act" so that people would want to pass it to be a so-called "Patriot" after such a tragedy as 9-11. Go read it and research it. They've used 9-11 also to take away other civil liberties that are supposed to be protected by the Constitution. As Ben Franklin said, People who give up their liberties for temporary security will get neither and deserve neither. They've used 9-11 to pass the law on a national I.D. card. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS???? Big Brother's watching you at all times. At all times, you will have to have your I.D. card with you starting this May (which will currently be your Driver's License, or a separate ID card if you don't have a Driver's License); every place you go, you could be asked to show your ID (like Nazi Germany, "papers, please! you cannot get through without showing your papers!") the Bible warns of all this type of thing, by the way, whether or not it's referring to our specific situation, I don't know yet. PLEASE take a look at this video about the National ID card legislation that Congress passed: What does a National ID card mean for America?

Now, they've used the Virginia Tech shootings to pass a gun law. Anyone who has ANY record of a mental illness or ADD or ADHD or depression or anxiety or anything minor OR major of that sort will not be able to purchase a gun; furthermore, anyone with such a condition, which my friends, includes war veterans, could have their guns confiscated from them as well. Let me tell you, ANY criminal who wants to get a gun for his purposes WILL find a gun with no trouble. But a gun law prevents law-abiding citizens from owning guns to protect themselves from criminals, or tyrannical government and police forces. Crime is HIGHER in cities where gun control is high because the criminals have nothing to be afraid of if they know their victims are not allowed to be armed. Tyranny takes root when citizens give up their liberties and are not allowed to defend themselves against their BIG Brother (government). WATCH this video of "gun control" in New Orleans after Katrina.

"This is why history and geography are not taught in the Rockefeller education of public schools. Any time there is an unarmed populace, there is a crushing oppression or killing to extinction of this populace. Naomi Wolf addresses the fact that the founding mothers and fathers were aware of this, hence the 2nd ammendment."

Here's the article on the bill that was just passed and that President Bush just signed to increase gun control: Bush kills Second Amendment for Veterans

I fear for my family and friends. I fear for our country. I am ANGRY because I don't want my children to grow up in this kind of country. Unfortunately, there is no where to escape because the people in that infamous Crap game include leaders and officials all over the world.

This e-mail was not an e-mail to promote Ron Paul, but rather a message to wake you up if you haven't already paid attention to all of this crap, no pun intended.

However, I will add that RON PAUL is the ONLY candidate running for President who has voted AGAINST all of this legislation and who has warned against all of these decisions and who actually sees what America has become.

Unfortunately, the some of the big wigs in the Crap game are running for President as well and they are doing everything they can to smother the threat:

* Fox News, owned by private corporations, is on their side and is shafting Ron Paul because he's the only one who's warning America about all of this.
* Some are trying to "under cover" plan for Ron Paul's assassination because he's a "threat" (listen to Alex Jones for more information on this)
* There have been obvious cases of VOTE FRAUD in the primaries to give other candidates a boost and take away votes from Paul (here's an example: http://www.ronpaulwarroom.com/?p=681 )

American Fascism may be unavoidable at the pace that it's already going. :(

Forgive me for a lengthy e-mail. I hope you made it this far. My heart is heavy and it's time to pray and DO something about this. please wake up. I love you all

Various Random Thoughts

Well, it's past midnight, but I haven't gone to sleep yet...so, to me, it is still Sunday, December 16.

December 16 is the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party; Ron Paul supporters used this day to explode another money bomb by skyrocketing Paul's donations from over 11 million to over 18 million in 24 hours! This freedom revolution is no joke, and it is no small matter to those of you who might be skeptical. Listen to Alex Jones (AND verify what he says by looking up for yourself the documents and proof he gives for what he says); research Ron Paul and watch videos on YouTube (links below):

Ron Paul: A New Hope
PBS Documentary on Ron Paul

Visit his website: www.ronpaul2008.com and get SERIOUS about this upcoming election! Well I almost went on another surge about Ron Paul, but I decided not to here because I have plenty else to say right now. Besides, I'm not sure I can help anyone who's not smart enough to recognize that our country is in grave danger and so is each individual who lives in America and the only candidate who is consistently true to his word and has principled values and cares about the American people is RON PAUL. wow...I think that was a run-on sentence, but I'm too tired to fix it, so hopefully it made sense.

Okay, so December 16, 2007 is also the first day in my life that I -- Letisha Beachy -- fired a real gun. I fired a Glock 19 (9 mm bullets) at a bowling pin four times; I hit the pin twice out of the four times I shot and the second time I hit it, I knocked it completely off the fence. Seems a little ironic (coincidental?) that I shot a gun for the first time on December 16, 2007, the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, the day of the second revolutionary money bomb by Ron Paul supporters, a day of supporting a candidate who very strongly supports and believes in our Second Amendment right to bear arms. Interesting...
Anyway, I attended my first gun show on Saturday, December 15 and it was, to say the least, an experience to be had. Perhaps I will write more on this later.

Another thing I'd like to note about today is that as I drove home from Tom's house tonight, I thought about the fact that today was the first time I've ever shot a real gun. Tom gave me a one- to two-minute lesson on gun safety, how the gun works, and how to aim and fire. I did not grow up around guns and I admit to always being afraid of them for various reasons aside from the obvious fact that I knew that they were deadly if you are on the "business end of the gun," as Tom puts it. I was nervous at the gun show; I was nervous when I heard Tom target practicing, and I was fearful when I went to try it. I did it because it is a fear that I know I must overcome in this world. So, as I drove home from Tom's house tonight, I tried to think back to doublecheck my memory if this was indeed the first time I've ever fired a real gun. I fired toy guns when I was a young tom boy; I fired water guns; I fired a paintball gun a few times in the woods; and I've played Lazer Tag. So, as far as I can remember, I have never fired a real gun until today. Then I wondered, why can't I remember something like this for certain? You'd think that shooting a gun for the first time would be something you'd remember...then that got me to thinking about major events that Tom has asked me about my past that I cannot answer because I don't remember. When and how did this failure in my memory come about? I'm pretty sure I didn't used to be as uncertain about such things before. See? "I'm pretty sure." I can't even say "I'm certain" very often. What's happened to my memory? I've heard (Tom, Alex Jones, articles) that various chemicals can result in memory loss, and these chemicals can be found in the fluoride that the city puts in our tap water, in various medicines (perhaps including anti-depressants?), and possibly in fluids that are injected into our systems when we get various "protocol" shots. I have to do some research to find out how much of this is true and what might be causing my memory loss, but let's hope I can get that done before I forget why I'm doing the research in the first place! I don't want people or chemicals messing with my body unless I consent to it and know exactly what something is going to do to my body. This is a similar frustration as I mentioned in a recent blog about the anti-depressants that I stopped taking.

Another note regarding the gun thing: I was happy to see/hear that some children are taught very well about gun safety. Tom's neice, Hayleigh, is one such young lady. As Cindy (Hayleigh's mom) and I discussed how this gun was Tom's new "toy" and that he'd be giving it a lot of attention for awhile, Hayleigh jumped in and said "but it's not a toy!" :)

This is random (watch out from left field!): I saw one of the funniest things this weekend. It was a plinko Santa. You seen the Plinko game on The Price is Right?? Everyone loves plinko! Well, this toy is a Plinko Santa, except there is only one whole that the Santa can land in and it is a chimney! The Sparks' dog, Charley, was quite intrigued with the toy too!

Here's one from right field: I heard a song by a band that I'd never head of before and it was quite good. The band is an old rock band called Golden Earring and the song was called...umm, sorry I don't remember.

Speaking of songs and artists...I realized recently just how stupid I've become since I left college. This thought came about as I played Taboo with friends from church at a Christmas party a couple weeks ago. I did very poorly on much of it because I am so unfamiliar with pop culture! When I was in college, I was like a neverending sponge that constantly got fed. Now I'm like a neverending sponge that is often dry and leaving much to be desired, I mean, learned. At Virginia Tech, I was surrounded by students seeking knowledge, professors researching, my own copious amounts of homework, teaching fellow students, and just a general sense of academic-hood. Whenever I didn't know something or understand something, I'd go Google it and find out (hence "newsflash" that I received from the Lord a few nights ago that I blogged about recently). Now, life is...well, I'm not sure what life is now or what exactly happened, but I must get it back! I think should include me keeping up with my languages, the instruments I've learned or am learning, becoming more familiar with pop culture as well as history, and finding more time to read. Is it possible for me to do all that when I can barely find time to do anything for myself as it is right now? It seems that the past few years have been largely spent battling constant emotional roller coasters and/or depression, as well as trying to figure out where the heck my life is going. Meanwhile, my search for knowledge has starved; I want to know things for good, use them for good...and ultimately use them for creativity. I know for sure that I must engage in more scholarly conversations and cannot expose myself to things that make me feel like my brain cells are dissipating or disolving into a big mass of nothingness.

I have been working on a children's book lately. Goodness! I sure did choose a complicated hobby/career path! Tom has been trying to help me figure out how to put this complicated baby book together (it has to be sturdy to endure baby handling). Who was to know that it was going to be so difficult? I hope it gets published after all this trouble!

I have so many things to write about...I hope I have plenty of opportunities to write this week since (I'm pretty sure) I don't have to tutor again until after Christmas. Perhaps I will blog again tomorrow...

Oh, and my sister returns from Kenya, Africa on Tuesday, December 18, 2007.

Sunshine

My Sunshine

By Thomas Houston

Today I awoke in a groggy state and my mind screamed not to get out of bed
The button called "snooze" has made me late as I now face the hour drive with dread
As the miles roll by I can see the gray sky, the clouds gather thick overhead
I take a deep breath and let out a sigh then thoughts of her enter my head

Eyes like the sea stare back and thrill me, a green mystery not revealing her soul
Seems where ever I may be when she isn't with me, to be with her is my quest and my goal
Her hair smells so sweet as she points her bare feet, her lips pursed to be pressed against mine
On a day like today when clouds keep light away, her memory in my heart is my sunshine

Instead of the windshield I see her face and her laughter now enters my mind
Instead of the wheel I feel her embrace, our heartbeats and arms are entwined
Instead of the engine I hear her voice as she whispers sweet words so divine
Instead of the dark all seems to be bright from her memory, her light, my sunshine

The drive is long and the morning is drear but my thoughts are not here on the road
and the clouds overhead have a slight tint of red but I ignore the gloom they forebode
No matter how dim my circumstances may be or how bad my life gets out of line
The glow of her smile when she's happy with me is all I need for my light and my sunshine
